What began
as a simple home show, borrowing a generous friend's dining room, has
grown to twice annual trips to the United States. Occurring in hotel
suites in Chicago. Los Angeles, and New York, the showings continue to
combine the spirit of a "Mad Market" and a salon.
The success
of my collection has led me to explore and to reach out to new
clientele in Aspen, Miami, Santa Fe, and Washington D.C.
Internationally, a show has been established in London.
Batiking, painting, hand
weaving, individually or collectively, are the normal vocabulary. The
layering and mixing concept of the clothing is loosely based on the
traditional garments of Asia. The initial shapes were geometric in
nature. Many more detailed and structured shapes have emerged allowing
for a closer body fit. Jackets, coats, and vests all reverse; skirts
and pants often do as well.
Many of my
own materials, motifs and colors have been created; always expanding
the resources available! The focus has remained utilizing the natural
materials and abundant hand skills to embellish simple energetic
garments.
Bali: Nadya's Fabric Studio-Workshop
The range
for jackets is $250 - $350. Pants, skirts, shirts are generally priced
from $125 - 225. Prices are based on fabrics and treatments. Those
being hand woven in silk with painting, beading and batiking represent
the higher end. Most jackets, coats and shirts are reversible (two for
one); as are many pants and skirts.
